Emergency News RSS feed for Emergency News Newport-Mesa Closure and Dismissal Information March 16 - April 3: Students do not report to school March 20 - April 3: Students expected to begin distance learning, from home April 6 - 10: Spring Break The Newport-Mesa Unified School District Board of Education took action today to prevent a COVID-19 spread into our schools and made the following difficult decisions. These decisions were made during a special emergency Board Meeting today, and in consultation with the Orange County Department of Education. District Schools and Offices Closed: Monday, March 16, 2020 No students or staff report to school/work (with the exception of management and administrative staff, or at the direction of your supervisor) School Dismissed: March 17 - April 3, 2020 Students do not report to school; All staff reports to work as usual Anticipated Distance Learning: March 20 - April 3, 2020 All staff reports to work as usual; Students learn from home. Spring break remains unaffected, April 6-10, 2020 As of now, all students are expected to return to school on April 13, 2020 . Staff will work on finalizing plans and training to move to distance learning. We ask parents/guardians to make the rest of the arrangements for their student(s) to stay home during this time. Anticipated Distance Learning (March 20 - April 3, 2020) We anticipate implementing a Distance Learning Plan (DLP) March 20 - April 3, 2020. Staff reports to work; students learn from home. While distance learning is new and different for many of us, it is essential in continuing students’ education at this time of great uncertainty. Schools will share additional information regarding distance learning as soon as possible. Meals (UPDATED 3/14/2020) Student lunches are available, for pick-up only, from 11 am to 12:30 pm., Monday through Friday. Lunches may be picked up at the front of the schools, as noted below. Lunch is limited to one per student. Monday, March 16: Student lunches will be available at California, Kaiser, Killybrooke, Paularino, Pomona, Sonora, Whittier and s. Tuesday, March 17 - April 3: Student lunches will be available at all schools. Please know that we are mindful of the challenges for a number of our families, the disruption of routines, and the technological and logistical challenges of implementing a distance learning plan. However, the health and safety of our school community has been, and will continue to be our number one priority. This decision is made out of great respect for our schools community. Please give our schools and District time to plan accordingly and know that our schools will reach out to parents next week with additional information. Click the link below to learn more! Shine Bright About Us Wilson School is located at 801 W. Wilson Street in the beautiful city of Costa Mesa. Wilson Elementary serves approximately 415 students in Transitional Kindergarten through sixth grade with an additional 45 students in our preschool. The staff, parents, and students foster the acceptance and celebration of diversity and strive to instill a lifelong love of learning. Wilson provides a learning environment that supports students through academic and social emotional excellence through the shared vision that all students will achieve academic and personal success as they become responsible and productive lifelong learners. Students have 1:1 technology in grades first through sixth to provide accessibility to the Internet, online curriculum components that support our curricular programs, and participate in music, hands-on science, P.E, and enrichment programs. Each Friday we have a Wildcat Rally and invite parents to attend, where a different class each week puts on a special performance! The last Friday of each month four students' names are drawn to have lunch with the principal. Each month we also incorporate monthly growth mindsets, which are presented by the student council.
